 A time I was judged unfairly was in a grocery store. There was these kids yelling and screaming for fun around the door causing the employees to go looking for them. Instead the employees didn’t go looking for them they targeted me and asked me to leave the store. I was extremely confused as I told them it was not me doing the yelling. I knew they just stopped me because of my color and it got me really upset but I knew I had to stay calm because I had done nothing wrong. After going back and forth the kids started screaming again and they knew it wasn’t me so they let me continue my shopping. It still felt bad to know I had been judged solely on my appearance.

  Prompt: Analyze how you’ve adapted to the demands of this course over the past week, and evaluate one strength and one challenge you anticipate as we progress, justifying your insights with personal examples. I have realized while in this course, that there is a lot of writing and going in depth of our cultures. I did not expect to see everyone in class pretty vulnerable with the different questions asked. My strengths are definitely writing, I enjoy it. A weakness would for sure be the time.   Prompt : Reflect on how your cultural heritage shapes your daily expectations, inspired by "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid. My cultural heritage leads to many expectations, not only from me but of me as well. Many people expect me to be this perfect latina girl. Like I should have all the curves the movie stars do. From my home It is the complete opposite, they expect me to be a Heaven sent daughter. To have the best grades and clean until I can”t anymore. I can relate to “Girl” because there is another person criticizing every move she makes, telling her what she can and cannot be. I too feel that pressure. The advice coming from her mom sounds far too harsh, I understand. My mom talks that way as well, not in a judgeful manner, more so of a helpful one. Coming from a hispanic catholic household, both of my parents were raised religious and this shapes their ideas to what a young lady should act and look like.
