Prompt: After reading the first five letters of The Color Purple, reflect on your thoughts and emotions as you experienced Celie’s early voice and struggles.

 Reading the first few letters of The color purple makes me extremely sad. Going into this book I did not know what to expect but it hit a very sad place early on. I quickly realized all the struggles Celie was dealing with and definitely gained a soft spot for her and wanted a happy ending for her.

I have realized while in this course, that there is a lot of writing and going in depth of our cultures.   Prompt : Reflect on how your cultural heritage shapes your daily expectations, inspired by "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid. My cultural heritage leads to many expectations, not only from me but of me as well. Many people expect me to be this perfect latina girl. Like I should have all the curves the movie stars do. From my home It is the complete opposite, they expect me to be a Heaven sent daughter. To have the best grades and clean until I can”t anymore. I can relate to “Girl” because there is another person criticizing every move she makes, telling her what she can and cannot be. I too feel that pressure. The advice coming from her mom sounds far too harsh, I understand. My mom talks that way as well, not in a judgeful manner, more so of a helpful one.
