 Write about a song that brings back a specific memory


A song that brings me back memories is definitely “White Ferrari” by Frank Ocean. My friend Guillermo, had a white car. We would all be around it and he was the only one that drove so every hangout it was there. The song reminds me of not only the car or the hangouts, but him as well. The song is extremely emotional and at one point it says “I’m sure we’re taller in another dimension” this quote makes me think about Guillermo because I often think about in another world, where he’s still alive, we’re somewhere riding in that same white car. This song aches my heart in the best way possible and makes me think about our friendship how it was too short. His life was too short. He loved this song and he loved Frank Ocean. Now I love him too and this song brings me back memories to when we would all hang out and be stupid kids.

  Prompt: Analyze how you’ve adapted to the demands of this course over the past week, and evaluate one strength and one challenge you anticipate as we progress, justifying your insights with personal examples. I have realized while in this course, that there is a lot of writing and going in depth of our cultures. I did not expect to see everyone in class pretty vulnerable with the different questions asked. My strengths are definitely writing, I enjoy it. A weakness would for sure be the time.   Prompt : Reflect on how your cultural heritage shapes your daily expectations, inspired by "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid. My cultural heritage leads to many expectations, not only from me but of me as well. Many people expect me to be this perfect latina girl. Like I should have all the curves the movie stars do. From my home It is the complete opposite, they expect me to be a Heaven sent daughter. To have the best grades and clean until I can”t anymore. I can relate to “Girl” because there is another person criticizing every move she makes, telling her what she can and cannot be. I too feel that pressure. The advice coming from her mom sounds far too harsh, I understand. My mom talks that way as well, not in a judgeful manner, more so of a helpful one. Coming from a hispanic catholic household, both of my parents were raised religious and this shapes their ideas to what a young lady should act and look like.
