 What is a holiday tradition important to your family and why. 

A holiday tradition important to my family is definitely celebrating on Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve is the time all family comes together for meals and music. A fest to celebrate the life of Jesus and ourselves how far we’ve gotten. Celebrating on Christmas Eve is something I know a lot of Hispanics do. Being with family is the greatest joy I could ask for and the home made food is even better. As we’re all huddled up together my last favorite part is definitely getting to open Christmas presents the night before!

I have realized while in this course, that there is a lot of writing and going in depth of our cultures. I did not expect to see everyone in class pretty vulnerable with the different questions asked. My strengths are definitely writing, I enjoy it. A weakness would for sure be the time.   Prompt : Reflect on how your cultural heritage shapes your daily expectations, inspired by "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid. My cultural heritage leads to many expectations, not only from me but of me as well. Many people expect me to be this perfect latina girl. Like I should have all the curves the movie stars do. From my home It is the complete opposite, they expect me to be a Heaven sent daughter. To have the best grades and clean until I can”t anymore. I can relate to “Girl” because there is another person criticizing every move she makes, telling her what she can and cannot be. I too feel that pressure. The advice coming from her mom sounds far too harsh, I understand. My mom talks that way as well, not in a judgeful manner, more so of a helpful one. Coming from a hispanic catholic household, both of my parents were raised religious and this shapes their ideas to what a young lady should act and look like.
